Flame Spray Gun


Flame Spray Gun is the thermal spraying of a group of coating processes in which finely divided metallic or nonmetallic materials are deposited in a molten condition to form a coating. This simplest device was based on the principle that if a wire rod were fed into an intense, concentrated flame, (the burning of a fuel gas with oxygen), it would melt. If the flame was surrounded by a stream of compressed gas, the molten metal would become atomized and readily propelled onto a surface to create a coating. Flame spray gun process variation in which the controlled explosion of a mixture of fuel gas, oxygen, and the powdered coating material is utilized. it melts and propels the material to the workpiece.

Flame Spray Gun Process

Flame spray gun spraying is the oldest of the thermal spraying processes, characterized by low capital investment, high efficiency, deposition rates, relative ease of operation and cost of equipment maintenance. The flame spray uses combustible gas as a heat source to melt the coating material. A wide variety of materials can be deposited in rod, wire, or powder form as coatings using this process Flame spray guns and the vast majority of components are sprayed manually.

Flame Spray Gun Advantages:

The flame Spraying process has many advantages such as

  • Simple in design, and dust and fumes levels are lower.
  • It is widely used for Corrosion protection of structures and machine parts (e.g. bridges, offshore platforms, LPG bottles).
  • For corrosion protection of structures and machine components and reclamation wore shafts flame spray process is mainly used.
  • It is used where a cost-effective thermal spray coating is desired and lower quality can be tolerated.

Thermal Flame Gun

In addition to using chemical means to plasticizes, the input consumables electrical currents are also used. This process was initially referred to as metalizing. Currently, this technique is known as oxy-fuel or flame spraying. Other oxy-fuel methods include wire, powder (metallic and ceramic), molten metal, ceramic-rod, detonation and high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF). Typically, electrical energy is used to create the heat source into which powder, and more recently wires, are fed, melted/plasticizes and conveyed onto the surface to be coated. Major, commercially employed electrical methods, used to construct coatings include non-transferred arc plasma, RF plasma, and wire arc. Based upon the two heat sources a “family tree” of thermal spray methods can be constructed,
